HP Printer Offline? Steps to Get It Printing Again
HP printer showing offline? Check Windows or Mac printer status, Wi-Fi connection, print queue, default printer and common HP setup issues.
1. Check whether Windows or Mac is showing the printer as offline
Open your printer settings and confirm the HP printer is selected as the active device. If it is marked offline, pause printing and clear any old jobs before reconnecting it.
2. Check the connection
For Wi-Fi models, make sure the printer and computer are using the same home network. If the router was recently replaced or renamed, the printer may still be trying to use the old network.
3. Clear the print queue
A stuck document can keep later jobs from printing. Remove failed or duplicated jobs, then send a small test page.
4. Check the default printer and driver
Windows or macOS can retain an old printer entry after a device change. Confirm the correct HP device is selected and that its software or driver is installed correctly.
Before you change anything: If the printer is actively printing or moving, let the current job finish or cancel it from the queue. For physical clearing or cable work, power the printer down when the manufacturer's instructions call for it.
