Computer Won’t Connect to Printer?
If your computer cannot find the printer, first determine whether the printer is online and whether the problem is the network, driver, queue or computer.
Printer connection problems can look similar even when the underlying cause is different. A printer may be online but invisible to the computer, or the computer may have an old driver or saved connection.
What to check first
- Confirm the printer is powered on and shows no error state.
- Check whether the printer is connected to the same network as the computer when using Wi-Fi.
- Restart the printer and computer and retry the connection.
- Remove an obsolete printer entry and add the current printer again when appropriate.
- Check for the correct manufacturer driver or supported printer software.
- Clear a stuck print queue if jobs are preventing new jobs from processing.
When basic troubleshooting doesn't fix it
If the printer works from another device but not the affected computer, the next step is usually the computer’s printer configuration, driver or print queue.
