Bluetooth Not Working on Windows?

If Windows cannot find, pair or maintain a Bluetooth connection, the cause may be the adapter, driver, pairing state or the device itself.

Bluetooth problems are often easier to isolate by testing whether Windows can see the adapter and whether another Bluetooth device behaves differently. Avoid repeatedly pairing the same device without first clearing a failed pairing state.

What to check first

  1. Confirm Bluetooth is enabled in Windows settings.
  2. Restart Windows and the Bluetooth device being paired.
  3. Remove an old or failed pairing and try pairing again.
  4. Check Device Manager for the Bluetooth adapter and driver status.
  5. Test another Bluetooth device to determine whether the issue is device-specific.
  6. Install manufacturer or Windows-provided driver updates when appropriate.

When basic troubleshooting doesn't fix it

If Bluetooth is missing entirely from Windows or the adapter shows an error in Device Manager, driver or hardware troubleshooting may be required.
